Welcome to The Sheep and Goat Dairy Project
Funded through the Provincial Growth Fund, the Sheep and Goat Dairy Project undertook a 14 month research period from the end of January 2019 until March 2020.
Drawn upon prior work and looking across the value chain from consumer demand to farm supply. The project aimed to identify markets where New Zealand companies can compete, focusing on high value, consumer-ready products such as yoghurt, liquid milk and cheese.
This project explored the opportunities for New Zealand sheep and goat dairy sectors and the feasibility for new investment in production, processing and marketing. The focus has been on creating industries that are scalable, sustainable and capable of delivering significant economical benefits to New Zealand.
(1) the market demand and profit for high value sheep and goat products
(2) the farm supply requirements and,
(3) the processing infrastructure needed to satisfy future demand and maximise the returns on a bucket of milk
