John Morgan
Project Lead

John is Manager of the Food NZ Innovation Network in the South Island. This Network is part of a national food and beverage export growth initiative. The Southern Centre has a pilot plant located at Lincoln University which opened for business in November 2015 and is working with South Island based businesses to grow their sales and exports.

John has worked in industry in management and business development roles for nearly 30 years, the past 10 in the food industry.

John holds an Agricultural Science Degree from Lincoln University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia.

Jan Hales
Project Manager

Jan is the project manager for the Sheep and Goat Dairy Project. She has extensive and diverse experience in the food and dairy sectors, and has worked on the development and marketing of brands and products with health and nutrition attributes for New Zealand and export markets. She also worked for the New Zealand Food Innovation Network, providing business development, project management and strategic marketing support to a range of food industry clients.

Jan is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian with a Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Otago. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Canterbury and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from Massey University.

Shane Kells
Project Team Member

Shane is an integral member of the project team, bringing a depth of knowledge and expertise from a 27-year career in the dairy manufacturing industry. In recent years, he worked as Business Development Manager for FoodWaikato, the central North Island hub of the New Zealand Food Innovation Network.

In this role, Shane was responsible for managing and growing the FoodWaikato business, an open access drier manufacturing high value nutritional powders, much of which originated from sheep and goat milk. He was also part of a team that looked at the feasibility of manufacturing whey powder and butter from sheep and goat milk. Both reports can be found in the resources tab on this website.

Shane has a double Diploma in Dairy Manufacturing and Food Safety Auditor.
